Cassandra Moore (she/they)
Mindfulness Teacher & Mentor
Cassandra's first mindfulness teacher was the southwest high desert. As a teen growing up amid chaotic family dynamics, the quiet desert was a refuge that taught them how healing and powerful present-moment awareness is. After beginning a formal meditation practice in 2014, Cassandra completed a 20-month residency at Upaya Zen Center. Cassandra is passionate about how subversive mindfulness practice can be: how it reminds us of our inherent worth, and how that is a practice of embodied resistance in a culture that demands we forget our value. This lens informs how Cassandra teaches and connects with teens, hoping to communicate that meditation is a liberation practice, is a practice which can help us decolonize minds and bodies, and so is part of a movement for social change. Cassandra is currently finishing a Master of Arts degree in Integrative Counseling Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies. In their free time, they ever so slowly learn to play the guitar, try to remember to dance, and tend to their relationships to humans and the earth.
