Maggie Steele (she/her)
Head of Training
Maggie is the creative and administrative head of training at Peace in Schools. She is also a licensed school social worker and training instructor. Since joining Peace in Schools in 2016, Maggie has designed curricula for and taught our for-credit, elective Mindful Studies course to hundreds of teens. She worked with our team to develop adult programming in 2017 and has since designed, managed and facilitated in-depth mindfulness-based professional development trainings that focus on social emotional learning, suicide prevention, anti-oppressive practices and trauma-informed approaches when working with youth. Most recently Maggie has designed the 150-hour Peace in Schools Certification Training for educators, creating a framework for our pedagogical approach to learning and curriculum for our Mindful Studies Partnership Program. As a young adult struggling with mental health challenges, Maggie was introduced to mindfulness in 2003 and has since dedicated her life to providing adolescents with opportunities to cultivate self-compassion, self-love and an unshakable knowing that their being here matters.
