Welcome to Mindfulness for Burnout: Restorative Self-care for Educators. In this introductory video, Janice orients you to the course format and outcomes and makes some suggestions for how to best engage with the course. 

In this online course you’ll:

  • learn the basics of mindfulness and how to cultivate a nourishing practice to support your wellbeing 

  • discover the physiological and psychological impacts of burnout and compassion fatigue 

  • experience restorative practices that nourish the body and nervous system

  • cultivate a renewed sense of purpose, resilience, and possibility in your life and your work

Once you have completed all modules, return to this Pepper course and complete the "Course Completion" section. This course is listed under the “My Current Courses” section of your Pepper dashboard (upper right).

After completing the “Course Completion” section, you will receive a certificate and credit on your transcript.


1. Introduction to Mindfulness

In this lesson, Janice introduces mindfulness through a reflective journaling exercise and guided meditation.

2. Belly Breathing

In this lesson, Shuchi shares a simple, restorative practice called belly breathing. You’ll experience how breath regulation can support the mind, body, and nervous system.

3. The Science of Burnout

In this lecture, Maggie teaches about the physiological and psychological impacts of burnout and compassion fatigue. You’ll learn about the parasympathetic nervous system and how breathwork and other mindfulness exercises soothe and support the body.

4. Sound & The Vagus Nerve

In this lesson, Hilda demonstrates a mindfulness practice that uses sound. You’ll be guided through how to stimulate the vagus nerve with humming.

5. Paced Breathing Practice

In this lesson, Shuchi offers another breathing exercise that grounds the attention. You’ll walk away with another practical, tangible mindfulness tool. 

6. The Conditioned Mind

In this lesson, Caverly Morgan, Founder and Lead Contemplative at Peace in Schools, introduces the concept of the conditioned mind. Have a journal handy because there will be journal prompts and offered throughout the video.

7. Mindful Movement

In this lesson, Bode leads a gentle mindful movement practice. You’ll focus on moving the body with kindness and presence.

8. The Science and Benefit of Mindfulness

In this lecture, Maggie highlights the benefits of mindfulness practices. You’ll learn how mindfulness fosters resilience, sustainability, and wellbeing.

9. Loving Kindness Practice

In this lesson, you'll experience a loving kindness meditation led by Hilda.

10. Unconditional Love

In this lesson, Caverly unpacks unconditional love. You’ll explore how to apply this practice individually, in relationship, and in community.
